I'd Like To Say...

(This will be an occasional feature from West Haven Bob)
...that I extend my condolences to the fans of both the New York Jets and of the Minnesota Vikings -- Both teams put up a great game, and have no reason for shame. At least for the Jets, I suspect their young team will only get better in the coming years...and I might have to worry for my beloved New York GIANTS for the future hearts of New York football fans. And (though I hate to admit it) Brett Favre proved why he's a lock for the Hall of Fame (and Adrian Peterson will only get better).

AP is not nearly the player he was in 2007 or 2008. He's great at the goaline but hasn't had a 100 yard game in his last 8 games. All the hits he took instead of going out of bounds are starting to show up.

Favre showed us that he will just continue to choke when it counts. He has won 1 superbowl and that's it.

His last pass as a Jet, Packer and Viking were all INT's and 2 of those were in key situations in the NFC Championship game.

I have to give you credit on the end-game issue. Maybe Favre needed to let go of the "hero-ego" issue to become another Montana. Woulda-Coulda-Shoulda's...who can tell? But for me, Favre's still a HOF lock.

That being said, AP's problems are to me more from the coaching side: they need an OC that'll utilize him to the fullest.

He has the same OC he did when he was the best running back in the NFL

The extra hits he takes by refusing to go out of bounds are starting to take their toll.

Without Favre AP will be a very average running back next year.

Favre is a lock for the HOF but Elway, Marino, Montana even Jim Kelly would have won at least 3 superbowls playing on the teams Favre did

Actually, I think the addition of Favre took away from Peterson as a runner...he was used mainly as a short-to-middle receiver this year.

Peterson's average yard/carry are similar this year over last; but he took 50 less snaps, and got twice the receptions. That alone should tell you how the OC (Bevell) hasn't integrated all the weapons into a cohesive whole.

Of course, Minnesota - like the Jets - may well have been betting on Favre as a "one-off": good only for a single season (and at 40, who could blame them?), so they weren't going to disrupt their long-term plans to build around him.

But the question remains: what comes "A.F." (After Favre)? The Vikings are in somewhat the same hole the Jets were last year...but without the same draft chances. And don't forget the loss of the salary cap...

(By the way...he was "the best sunning back in the NFL" when he started only 9 games...) Just sayin'

AP (or AD as he was called at OU) never played in just 9 games, he STARTED 9 games in 2007 but played in 15. Chester Taylor was coming off a very good season in 2006 and was the starting RB at the beggining of the 2007 season.

In 2007 he had 42 less yards than he did in 2009 but he had 76 LESS CARRIES.

I live in Mn and watch every Viking game, TRUST ME when I say he isn't the same runner outside the red zone as he used to be.
